TVET Stakeholders Convene to Strategize and Accelerate Progress Toward NST2 Goals

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) hosted the Quarter 1 meeting of the TVET Sub-Sector Working Group (TSSWG), bringing together key stakeholders to review progress, celebrate achievements, address challenges, and devise new strategies to achieve Rwanda’s TVET-related targets under the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2).

In his opening remarks, Eng. Paul UMUKUNZI, Director General of RTB, underscored the importance of these meetings in fostering collaboration, driving innovation, and ensuring that Rwanda’s TVET system remains responsive to the evolving needs of the national economy.

"I commend the collective efforts under NST1, including shifting negative perceptions of TVET among the youth, expanding access to TVET schools, ensuring at least one in every sector, supporting out-of-school youth, and introducing Dual Training programs," he stated.

He urged stakeholders to continue working together to enhance workplace learning, strengthen industry partnerships, and ensure that training programs are aligned with labor market demands and technological advancements. "These efforts are essential to addressing unemployment and reducing the skills mismatch," he emphasized.

The meeting featured presentations from the Chairpersons of the TVET Technical Working Groups and the Workplace Learning Task Force, who highlighted their accomplishments and upcoming initiatives. Representatives from the Private Sector Federation, co-chair of the TSSWG, also discussed private sector interventions.

The session concluded with renewed commitments from all stakeholders to collaborate on skills development initiatives. Participants expressed their appreciation for the strong partnerships that continue to drive progress in Rwanda’s TVET sector and support the country’s broader economic goals.
