RWANDA LAUNCHES ITS FIRST-EVER PLUMBING TRADE TEST TO STRENGTHEN SKILLS RECOGNITION AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
Rwanda has taken a significant step towards strengthening the quality, safety and professionalism of its plumbing sector with the launch of the country’s first-ever Plumbing Trade Test, an initiative led by the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) in collaboration with BluLever Education.
The launch marks an important milestone in establishing a standardised plumbing trade test and qualification framework in Rwanda. The framework is designed to provide a consistent approach to assessing, validating and recognising plumbers’ skills and competencies, contributing to improved service delivery and stronger professional standards across the country.
Speaking at the launch, RTB Director General, Eng. Paul UMUKUNZI, expressed his appreciation to BluLever Education for its commitment, technical expertise and partnership in supporting Rwanda in introducing this trade testing approach. He highlighted the importance of the initiative in enhancing the quality of services delivered within the labour market, both in Rwanda and beyond.
As part of the launch, the first cohort of 11 plumbers who successfully completed and passed the trade test was recognised for their dedication, hard work and achievement. Their success represents an important step towards formalising skills recognition and promoting greater professionalism within Rwanda’s plumbing sector.
The introduction of the Plumbing Trade Test reinforces efforts to strengthen competency-based skills assessment and ensure that practical skills are recognised against established standards. By promoting a more structured approach to evaluating occupational competencies, the initiative is expected to contribute to improved workmanship, greater confidence in plumbing services and enhanced opportunities for skilled professionals in the labour market.
Through this collaboration, RTB and BluLever Education are laying the foundation for a more standardised and professional plumbing trade in Rwanda, supporting the development of a skilled workforce equipped to deliver quality and safe services.
