RWANDA AND GERMANY STRENGTHEN TVET INFRASTRUCTURE AND INCLUSIVE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

The Government of Rwanda and the Federal Republic of Germany marked a significant milestone in the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) infrastructure with the inauguration of newly constructed and rehabilitated facilities at six Technical Secondary Schools (TSS) under the RTB–KfW Phase III TVET Project.

Held at Busasamana Technical Secondary School in Nyanza District on 23 September 2026, the ceremony highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen Rwanda’s TVET system through improved infrastructure and expanded access to quality skills training.

The newly constructed and rehabilitated infrastructure includes student dormitories, dining facilities, classrooms and workshops, designed to provide more conducive learning and living environments for TVET students. These facilities are expected to improve training quality, enhance practical learning experiences and support the development of a skilled workforce aligned with Rwanda’s socio-economic transformation agenda.

The six beneficiary schools are:
Busasamana TSS – Nyanza District
ES Kinazi TSS – Ruhango District
Father Ramon Kabuga TSS – Kamonyi District
Karengera TSS – Nyamasheke District
St. Augustin Mibirizi TSS – Rusizi District
ETO Gatumba TSS – Ngororero District

The inauguration also marked progress towards more inclusive access to skills development with the signing of an agreement by the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) and KfW to jointly implement the Skills4Girls TVET Project.

The initiative will extend support to additional TVET schools and strengthen the existing scholarship programme, with a particular focus on expanding opportunities for young women and girls, as well as learners with disabilities. It aims to promote more inclusive participation in TVET and ensure that learners from diverse backgrounds can access quality training and the support needed to develop skills for future employment and sustainable livelihoods.

Together, the infrastructure improvements and the Skills4Girls TVET Project reflect a shared commitment to modernising Rwanda’s TVET system, creating inclusive learning environments and expanding access to skills development opportunities for young people across the country.
