Rwanda TVET Board host the National conference on TVET Development

On Friday, 8th September 2023, the Rwanda TVET Board hosted the National conference to discuss the development of Technical and Vocational Education in Rwanda.

The meeting, held at Lemigo Hotel, brought together around 500 participants, comprising all Sector Education Inspectors, District Education Officers, and religious representatives.

In his presentation, the Director General of the Rwanda TVET Board, Dipl.-Ing. Paul UMUKUNZI underscored the paramount importance of nurturing TVET Education in Rwanda. This, he emphasized, isn't just another education initiative; it's a powerful catalyst that will propel Rwanda towards its lofty goal of becoming a knowledge-based economy.

“It is time for our youth to embrace programs that will equip them with hands-on, market-oriented skills. Skills that will empower them not only to enter but also to thrive in the fiercely competitive Job Market,” he added.

The participants committed to joining forces in promoting TVET and explaining its benefits in the development of the country and the community in general.

To transform Rwanda into a knowledge-based economy, the National Strategy for Transformation I (NST 1) has set a target for TVET to absorb 60% of all 9 Years Basic Education graduates by 2024 (up from 31.1% in 2017)."
