RTB, RP and Development Partners hold a TVET sub-sector working group retreat

TVET Sub-sector holds a 3-day working group retreat aimed at collecting final inputs in the finalization of the strategic documents as well as to discuss strategies for fast-tracking the NST1 TVET related targets.

The retreat held in Musanze from 16 to 18 September 2021 was organized by Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) in collaboration with Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) and Development Partners, brought together more than 70 participants.

The Director General of RTB, Dipl. Ing. Paul Umukunzi, who is also the Chair of TVET sub-sector working group, said that "skills development is one of the strongest pillars and a cornerstone for the economic transformation journey, that Rwanda has embarked on”

Umukunzi said that the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1) has clearly defined what the sector has to achieve, and how this shall be contributing to the economic development of the country.

“This journey requires combined efforts and alignment of our different interventions and activities, to the already described deliverables and targets; what is the main reason why we are gathered here.” He added

The Minister of State in charge of ICT and TVET, Hon Claudette Irere who officially closed the retreat thanked all members of the TVET sub-sector working group for giving their time to make the retreat successful, adding that she believes it will help in strengthening the TVET sub-sector in Rwanda.

She further stated that an issue that deserves great attention is the use of technology in training delivery and encouraged everyone to always remember that.

In this retreat, Participants had discussions on the harmonization of stakeholders’ interventions and activities to the prevailing and desired TVET priorities, and TVET financing, which is a key pillar of the establishment of a high-quality TVET offer in Rwanda.
