RTB and RP conduct a countrywide TVET public awareness campaign

Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) in collaboration with Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) and development partners are conducting a countrywide TVET public awareness campaign aimed at rebranding TVET and changing its perception among the Rwandan youth and society in general.

The 2-week campaign was launched in the city of Kigali on 7th February 2022 under the theme ‘’Join TVET to acquire technical skills for a brighter future’’ It was officiated by the Minister of State in Charge of ICT and TVET, Hon. Claudette IRERE

During the launch, The Director-General of RTB, Dipl.-Ing. Paul Umukunzi said that the purpose of this awareness campaign is to help the Rwandan society understand TVET and the future of work.

“We want to help the youth especially those in the last year of the 9years basic education to make the right choice by choosing skills that are in line with what is needed on the job market today and in the future.” He said.

In this campaign, RTB and RP are having interactive meetings with those in charge of education from sector to province levels, Vice Mayors in charge of Social Affairs, youth and women representatives. The discussions focus on TVET opportunities and their role in sensitizing the youth.

Students in General Education schools are also being sensitized and given more explanation on Rwanda TVET System and Mobility pathways.

To transform Rwanda into a knowledge-based economy, the National Strategy for Transformation I (NST 1) have set a target for TVET to absorb 60% of all 9 Years Basic Education graduates by 2024 (from 31.1% in 2017).
